(born March 26, 1880 in Pechory - died May 26, 1918 in Pskov) was an Estonian painter, known especially for his still lifes. For a time he studied with Julius von Klever in Saint Petersburg; further studies took him to Rome and Munich, where he studied at the school of Anton Ažbe. His paintings are reminiscent of the style of the Dutch Golden Age. Charles Joshua Chaplin
(8 June 1825 - 30 January 1891) was a French painter and engraver. He was born in Les Andelys, Eure, France to an English father and a French mother. Although he spent the whole of his life in France, he only became naturalized in 1886. He died in Paris, France. Chaplin conducted art classes specifically for women at his studio. The American artist Mary Cassatt and the English artist Louise Jopling were among Chaplin's students.
BALEN, Hendrick van
Dutch Baroque Era Painter, ca.1575-1632 Hendrik van Balen (1575 - 1632) was a Flemish painter, who was born and died in Antwerp. Van Balen studied art while traveling in Italy. He was the teacher of Anthony Van Dyck and Frans Snyders and was also a contemporary of many of the other famous Flemish artists, such as the Brueghels, Jan and Peter.
S.T.Gill
Australian original water-colour drawings and prints b.1818-d.1880 also known by his signature S.T.G., was and English-born Australian artist. Gill was born in Perriton, Somerset, England, the eldest of five children. His father, the Reverend Samuel Gill, became headmaster of a school at Plymouth, and the son was educated first at this school and then at Dr Seabrook's Academy, Plymouth. Having moved to London, he was employed as a draughtsman and watercolour painter by the Hubard Profile Gallery, before departing for the colony of South Australia in 1839 with his parents.
